Jeffrey Archer was awarded a record £500,000 in libel damages against the Daily Star newspaper. It accused him of paying the prostitute Monica Coghland for sex.

Fourteen years later Jeffrey Archer was jailed for 4 years for pergury and perverting the course of justice in the 1987 case.
